What kind of God are we really talking about?
Is He distant… demanding… unpredictable?
Or is He closer—and kinder—than we’ve been led to believe?
In this episode of myPodQuest, we take an honest look at the images of God many of us carry—and where they came from. From the “cosmic rule-keeper” to the “harsh judge,” we explore how personal experiences, religious culture, and fear can distort our view of God.
Then we look at Jesus.
Not as a buffer between us and an angry Father—but as the clearest picture of God’s heart. Through stories of compassion, pursuit, sacrifice, and grace, we ask whether God might actually be safe to trust.
If you’ve ever wrestled with questions about God’s character, struggled with fear-based faith, or wondered if there’s more to belief than performance and pressure—this conversation is for you.
No hype.
No manipulation.
Just an honest question:
What is God actually like?

Yes , that makes so much sense. We do tend to make it about our emotions. I do love the Lord and I thank you for the clarification. God Bless

That’s such an honest tension, and I think a lot of us live right there. We often place our understanding of love almost entirely in the realm of feelings. So when the emotions are strong—warm, inspired, moved—we assume love is present. And when those feelings fade, we quietly wonder if something is wrong with us… or worse, if we don’t love God enough. Over time, that emotional gauge can become a kind of spiritual compass—or even a club we use to beat ourselves with. But Scripture gives us a fuller picture of love than emotion alone. Paul says, “I am convinced that neither death nor life…” in **Romans 8. He doesn’t say, “I feel deeply” or “I’m overwhelmed with emotion.” He says, “I am convinced.” Being convinced isn’t an emotion—it’s a knowing. And that knowing shows itself as love that is present, trusting, attentive, and faithful. Sometimes quiet. Sometimes steady. Sometimes unspectacular. But real. Love doesn’t always feel earth-shaking. But it can still be deeply rooted. And even when our emotions are thin, that love—His love—remains present. That’s a comforting thought for anyone who’s ever felt spiritually tired and wondered if they were failing. I hope that helps....

Pastor Kip , You really gave a point that I have struggled with for so long. How do I know how to love the Father enough when that has not been my experience. I compare it to the love of my grandchildren which ARE MY HEART ! I would literally die for them ! I do love the Lord , or I say I do , but the heart emotion is different, not as strong, and I struggle with that . Could you help me to understand? Thanks
